Paper: Traditional Japanese Washi, custom layered by for a unique look
-
These papers are something new I am experimenting with and learning about, so are offered only a very limited basis at this time.
In the gallery below, you will see a mix of papers, from some very elegant ones with leaves to delicate tissue papers with mottled textures and flowers.
My experimenting involves laminating the tissue papers onto a stronger but thin kozo backing paper in order to be able to use the wonderfully delicate patterns. They are so incredibly pretty when illuminated.
In this process, I am also experimenting with leaves, Maple leaves in particular. The examples below currently are real papers made in Japan, but very hard to come by and costly, but more importantly, don’t allow me to position the leaf/leaves in exactly the right position without wasting a large amount of the sheet of paper. So I will be making my own where I can pre-plan where the leaf/leaves are to go in order not to waste paper, but also to frame things for best effect.
I hope to be able to incorporate your hand written original sentimental notes and things of the sorts, into these papers too, in time.
This technique involves a lot of work including the use of a vacuum press, but I hope in time to get this process completed more efficiently as I learn more and gain experience.

These papers are mostly intended to be the show piece of your lantern or lamp, so either used as a single decorative featured face with more plain paper on the sides, top and back, or used on all the faces.
